The West Texas Roller Derby league began in 2007, known then as the West Texas Roller Dollz. WTRD officially changed their name in 2017. In the same year, WTRD began the process of becoming a non-profit organization. WTRD is a charity and community-focused sports organization, which is skater-owned and operated. WTRD is comprised of a diverse group of strong-minded, strong spirited and strongly skilled people who love the sport of flat track roller derby and are determined to see it take a permanent hold in Lubbock. However, WTRD is more than just a sports club. We foster leadership in our skaters and believe in giving back to the community that supports us. Our vision is to deliver a powerful and positive image to the South Plains Community.
“The West Texas Roller Derby league aims to provide athletic opportunities for adults as a means of empowerment, as well as provide recreational entertainment for the community, while perpetuating the popularity of roller derby and the integrity of the league.”
Make a more substantial impact on the Lubbock community. Provide finances for traveling expenses. League growth at all levels; skating officials, non-skating officials, and all levels of skaters. Provide training clinics for local and surrounding area skaters to continue to improve their skill level. Acquire a local space for practices (warehouse space is optimal) and host games.
